In the book, Wings, Christopher Myers' protagonist, Ikarus Jackson has wings that both make him different and potentially vulnerable. Christopher Myers explores the idea of embracing the things that make us all different and using this strength to rise above those who may hurt us or mock us. This analogy can speak to many different students struggling with many different issues surrounding difference, friendship, multiculturalism, and bullying. (taken from Christopher Myers' web site)
In this video, Manny Fliegelman reads Wings for our Community Gathering at Hardwick Elementary.

Hardwick Elementary School Faculty, Staff and Students would like to send our deepest sympathy and condolences to the friends and family of Kevin Robinson (K-Rob) as he unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, December 9th. K-Rob's BMX performance and power point on bullying had a great impact on HES in November when he came to do a performance

Hardwick Elementary School would like to say a huge Thank You! to Women's Auxiliary Post #7 for their donation to our lunch program. Their donation will benefit many of our HES Families.

Connecting with community partners and modeling collaboration is an important part of being an artist and teacher.  So when Juedevine Youth Librarian, Diane Grenkow forwarded me a link about a project that Community Allies member Rhonda Barr was involved in called "Hardwick Rocks!", I brought the idea to 5th Grade Teacher Lisa Forbes and her students who wanted to be involved too.

Fifth Graders are creating their own "Kindness Rocks" and placing them around the school and community.  Their goal is to spread kind words and bring joy to others through their art making.  If you happen to see a "Kindness Rock" we hope the message will make you smile, have a good feeling inside, and think about how you can be kind to others too.  Collaboration Rocks!

Mrs.Trautman's Class having fun!
