Principal William Deiss

Dear Hardwick community,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Bill Deiss and I find myself in the very fortunate position of being the new Principal of Hardwick Elementary School.  Hardwick is a wonderful community with great pride.  I am excited to continue the hard work that has already been a part of this school and to help us move forward in the collective effort of supporting our students.

This is my 20th year as an Educator.  I started out as a Special Education teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina at the High School level.  I remained there under a number of different roles for 14 years.  Some of the things I did during my time there include teaching Algebra, coaching tennis, yearbook advisor, senior board advisor, and Assistant Principal.

I moved to Vermont in the summer of 2016 with my wife and son.  We have family in New England and we wanted to be closer to them.  I have to say that the choice to move to Vermont is one of the best things we ever decided to do.  We enjoy this beautiful state as much as possible.  We enjoy kayaking, skiing, hiking, and inviting family to come and visit.

Previously, I have worked at U-32 as an Assistant Principal/Dir. of Special Service and with Montpelier-Roxbury School District as the Director of Special Services.  I have found that strong relationships and good communication are essential to the work that we do.  It is no small task to raise a child and give them the tools they need to be successful in this ever changing world.  To that end, it is the collective efforts of families, friends, and staff that can make all the difference in future outcomes for all students.  I look forward to building these relationships and working with you.

That being said, there are two upcoming events that you are invited to.  On August 20th starting at 1:00, we will be hosting an ice-cream social for the community to meet both me and our new Superintendent, Dr. David Baker.  Please expect additional details on this event to be communicated soon.  Additionally, we are inviting parents to our playground for a Spruce-up-Day on Aug. 27th from 9:00 - 11:00.  Again, we will be sending out a flier via email and social media as we get closer.

I hope to see many of you at these upcoming events and throughout the school year.

Thank you,

William Deiss
